Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord has been working as a visual artist since the late 1970s. Ten years of calligraphic work were followed by twenty years of involvement in book arts where she is best known for the Spirit Book Series. In her recent work, she has returned to her love of words in digital compositions combining hand lettering with photographic images.

Her work is in the library collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Wellesley College, and Yale University. Solo and group exhibitions include the Center for Book Arts in New York City; the University of Indiana Art Gallery; the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design; and the Seungnam Book Fair, Korea. It has also been featured in magazines (Urthona: Buddhism and the Arts, Somerset Studio, Fiberarts, Letter Arts Review) and books (500 Handmade Books, Cover to Cover, The Art of the Handmade Book, Handmade Books And Cards).
